Distance:Approximately 80 miles

Pre-Ride Meeting:October 20, 2006, 9:00 p.m., Pay-n-Take Downtown Market.

Entry Fee:$30.00 per rider.  Additional donations will be accepted with proceeds to benefit flagstaffbiking.org.

More Information: For additional information, visit www.payntake.com.

The Course:  The ride begins at the Pay-n-Take Downtown Market at 12 Aspen Street in downtown Flagstaff and ends in the artists enclave and crusty miners’ haunt of Jerome.  You will travel over rugged fire roads and rocky singletracks through the world’s largest ponderosa pine forest.  You will take in the sights of beautiful Sycamore Canyon.  Don’t take your eyes off the beefy singletrack for too long – you’re close to the edge!  From there, you will descend the Mogollon Rim to Government Canyon and the Verde Valley.  In Perkinsville, visit the renowned VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER aid station to refuel for the 18 mile climb into the Woodchute Wilderness Area.  During the hot, dusty and steep grind, be sure to look around and take in the views of the Red Rocks of Sedona, the San Francisco Peaks and the desert surroundings.  The spectacular Northern Arizona landscape can take some pain out of your legs.  At the Woodchute Wilderness Area, take a left hand turn and a few miles of rolling uphill and then make the screaming descent into Jerome and the finish area.

Aid Station:  This is a self-supported ride; however, there will be one aid station, located approximately 60 miles into the ride, known as the VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER, which will provide water, sports drink, snacks, power bars, gel, etc. on a first-come-first-served basis.  You can also leave your own supplies with our driver, who will bring them to the aid station for you.  This is the one and only aid station so leave Flagstaff with enough water, food, sports drinks, etc. to get yourself 60 rolling miles.

After-Ride Event:  Pay-n-Take Downtown Market and Bigfoot BBQ will provide food and beverages after the ride at the Jerome Town Park.

Transportation Services:  The night before the ride, a shuttle will bring riders from the Spirit Room in Jerome to Pay-n-Take Downtown Market in Flagstaff.  The shuttle will depart from the Spirit Room at 7:00 pm, Friday, October 20.  On the morning of the ride, you can leave personal articles including clothing and food with our driver, who will bring it to the finish area for you.  The organizers are not, however, responsible for loss, theft, or damage of any personal articles.  We are still in the process of organizing transportation from Jerome to Flagstaff after the ride.  We are trying to keep the cost of the ride as low as possible so that most of your entry fee will go to charity rather than rental vans and buses.   Please car pool!

Dangers:  The ride is on Forest Service roads, doubletrack and singletrack.  All of the Forest Service roads and most of the course is open to vehicles, motorcyles, quads, horses, hikers, and other users.  Be aware of obstacles ahead of you and behind you and stay to the right when on roads.  This is a high-altitude wilderness ride and rescue is very difficult and slow.  You will be far from towns and paved roads for most of the ride.  Your own safety is based largely on your own actions.  Watch the weather, drink plenty of fluids and eat enough.  Ride conservatively, as the terrain is very challenging.  A crash could be very serious, so ride to finish, not to win.

This ride is limited to the first 50 participants.
